Law Week in November

COLOMBO: At the request of the Bar Association of Sri Lanka, President Mahinda Rajapaksa has decided to declare the first week of November as the Law Week, the President's Office said yesterday.

A delegation of the BASL comprising the newly elected President Nihal Jayamanne, President's Counsel, Secretary Sunil Abeyratne, Attorney-at-Law, and BASL Executive Committee Members called on President Rajapaksa at Temple Trees on Tuesday and made this request with the objective of organising pragmatic programmes to direct people to obtain legal advice, to make people aware of the relationship between the civil society and the Law and to educate them of the convenient access to Law relating to their day to day problems where legal remedies are available.

President Rajapaksa while assuring them of State sponsorship to achieve their objectives appreciated the invaluable service the lawyers are rendering and promised to render State assistance at all times to forge ahead with their work.
