Date set for SLC AGM

CRICKET: The Minister of Youth Affairs and Sports Jeevan
Kumaratunga yesterday announced by special gazette notification that the
long awaited annual general meeting of Sri Lanka Cricket will be held on
July 15.
The Sports Minister, under the sports law of 1973 number 25 and
chapter 41 directed the Ministry Secretary Siripala Virithamulla to hold
the annual general meeting on July 15 to elect the new office bearers
for the year 2006/2007.
The Minister said that the present Interim Committee of Sri Lanka
Cricket which has been in existence for more than a year has performed
their task to his satisfaction and has also set the atmosphere for a
fair and free election.
The Minister further said that there were several financial
mismanagements in the administration of Sri Lanka Cricket earlier but
now the Interim Committee has resolved everything and has laid the
platform for a proper election.
The present Interim Committee is headed by Jayantha Dharmadasa
(Chairman), Adel Hashim (Secretary), Sujeewa Rajapaksa (Treasurer),
Damien Fernando (member), K. Mathivanan (member) and Prakash Schaffter
(member).
The Ministry Secretary Siripala Virithamulla said that he had already
obtained advice from the Attorney General in an attempt to conduct the
annual general meeting smoothly and impartially.
He further said that nominations for the election will be received
from today and he will start enlightening the member clubs immediately.
The Ministry Secretary stated that those who are eligible for voting
are the Provincial Cricket Associations (5), Cricket Associations (6),
District Cricket Associations (22) and Controlling Bodies (29). They
will have two votes each for voting while the affiliated members which
amounts to a total of 23 will have one vote each. |
