Ham bids adieu with Ridgeway Cup

Adieu: Y.R. Ham in the centre, winner of the ladies golf competition

Golf : The Korean, Y.R. Ham, Maintaining consistency as a lady
golfer to win quite a few golf competitions here, did well to end her
golfing days in the island on a triumphant note, when last week she came
right on top to win the prestigious "Ridgeway Cup" golf competition.
Ham, the avid golfer that she is, will be leaving the country
shortly, and this victory of hers in the first 'Board' event of the year
for ladies, at the. Royal Colombo Golf Club will undoubtedly be to her a
satisfying experience, in that she will find her name being registered
in the honour 'Board' of the RCGC - most significant indeed.
Much enthusiasm and Keenness prevailed amongst the participants in
this match play competition for the coveted 'Ridgeway Cup'.
In the lead upto the semi-final Y.R Ham beat F de Mel whilst U de
Silva got the better of S. Selvaratnam, D. Senadhira won against Y.
Abhayaratne and Manori Jayakoddy beat heather Lourensz. In the
semi-finals the dominant Y.R. Ham did well to win over a equally good
player in Manori Jayakoddy, whilst school girl Dhanushi Senadhira beat U
de Silva (W/O) on the 16th in the finals true to form, Ham playing
excellent golf won over Dhanushi Senadhira, the school girl.
The tournament was successfully concluded at the RCGC on Friday 2nd
June, followed by the awards ceremony and dinner at the Kollupitiya
flower lounge. This enjoyable event was sponsored by Roshini Sangani of
Alankara and the L.G.U. Medal awards was sponsored by H.T. Lighting (Pvt).
Anne captain, Yuonne Abhayaratne and Radha Sundarampillai steered the
evenings' proceedings. |
