Tamil political party member escapes with severe injuries
JAFFNA: A Tamil political party member in Nunavil, Jaffna was
severely injured and admitted to the Jaffna Teaching Hospital after he
was shot by an unidentified person suspected to be an LTTE terrorist, a
release said.
The Sri Lanka Monitoring Mission (SLMM) has been informed. Jaffna
police are investigating. Meanwhile, a group of Tiger terrorists
attacked the Kopay police station with small arms fire after throwing a
hand grenade at the main entrance on Monday around 9.00 p.m.
The police retaliated with small arms fire and the attackers fled.
No casualties were reported.
The SLMM has been informed.
Meanwhile, one soldier was injured after Tigers threw a hand grenade
at an Army checkpoint in Urumpirai junction, Jaffna around 3.25 p.m. The
soldier was admitted to the Palaly military hospital.

A Naval patrol in the sea off Mannar detected a suspicious fibre
glass dinghy fitted with 2 x Out Board Motors carrying what appeared to
be refugees on their way to India on Monday around 9.30 p.m. The Navy
arrested 15 persons on board the dinghy.

Meanwhile, troops deployed at the Trincomalee Anuradhapura junction
were attacked by Tigers with hand grenades yesterday at about 8.20 a.m.
Two soldiers who were injured were admitted to the Trincomalee
hospital.
