Gamut of services for visually impaired

Colombo:The Book Ira payana thuru (Till the Sun dawns) with literary
creations of the visually handicapped was launched at the Social Service
and Social Welfare Ministry last week.
Awards were also presented to the visually handicapped who
contributed literary creations to this book. The ceremony was held under
Ministry Secretary V. Jayarajasingham's patronage.
The ceremony was organised by the Trust Fund for the Visually
Impaired. This fund has been of immense service to the visually
impaired, a spokesman said. The Ministry has also planned an annual
competition on literary creation, several received cash prizes and
certificates. There were two categories-one for students and the other
for adults.
The Ministry secretary said the Trust Fund renders a gamut of
services to the visually impaired providing them with funds for medical
facilities, education, housing facilities etc.
She said the Minister will organise many projects in the near future
to uplift the lives of all those who are visually handicapped. |
