President calls on Mahanayake Theras

KANDY: Having participated at the Ranaviru felicitation ceremony, Milapitiya Kandy on Wednesday President Mahinda Rajapaksa visited the Sri Dalada Maligawa and made offerings to the Tooth Relic last morning. Thereafter, he called on Mahanayaka Theras of Malwatta and Asgiriya Chapters, states a Presidential Secretariat press release.

After exchanging pleasantries he discussed with the Mahanayaka Theras, the prevailing political situation in the country. The Ven. Mahanayaka Theras in return expressed their satisfaction over the course of action pursued by the President relating to the peace move and the rest of the issues and invoked the blessings of the Triple Gem upon the President.

Central Province Governor Tikiri Kobbekaduwa and Diyawadana Nilame of Dalada Maligawa Nilanga Delabandara also participated on this occasion. The President also held discussion with the Central Province Governor, Chief Minister and the District Secretary, on matters relating to an accelerated development programme of the Kandy District.

President Mahinda Rajapaksa, stressed the importance of planning and implementing short, medium, and long term programmes for the development of Kandy and its suburban areas.
