Rs. 328 m to modernise N-E primary school
Colombo: The Education Department has released Rs. 328 million for
the modernisation of primary schools in the Northern and Eastern
Provinces, said Primary schools Development Project Director S.L.M.D.
Piyasena.
He said the total number of primary schools in the Trincomalee
district which was 249 in 2002 increased to 261 in 2005.
An increase in the number of primary schools was recorded in
Kilinochchi, Mannar, Vavuniya, Mullaitivu, Ampara and Jaffna districts
as well. Under the modernisation programme, steps have been taken to set
up computer laboratories 15 science laboratories for Advanced Level
students in selected schools.
Plans are also under way to set up 10 activity centres, 15 libraries
and five principal administration blocks and 100 Human Resources
Development Centres. About 30 other schools will be provided with
sanitary facilities under this project. |
