Army refutes LTTE report
JAFFNA: The Army successfully repulsed an attack at Nagarkovil,
Jaffna yesterday and refuted a pro-LTTE Tamil Net Website datelined May
31, where the actual position regarding the firing incident at
Nagarkovil Forward Defence Line (FDL) has been distorted to the
advantaged of the LTTE.
The Army statement:- LTTE terrorists early last morning once again
started firing mortars and small arms towards the troops at the FDL at
Nagarkovil, Jaffna forcing government troops to retaliate with small
arms and mortars.
The terrorist firing lasted for about 45 minutes and terrorists in
the opposite FDL afterwards retreated in the face of retaliatory fire,
directed by the Security Forces.
Troops maintained their original position at the FDL and no such
withdrawal, as fabricated in the story did take place at Nagarkovil
following the exchange of fire. Nor have the terrorists, as alleged in
the same story, advanced towards the FDL, of the Government Forces after
firing at them.
The Army while totally denying to contents of the report further
states that there were no injuries to troops in the enemy firing. |
