Wijekoon, Menaka strike gold

ATHLETICS: W.M.C. Wijekoon and Menaka Wickramasinghe won a gold medal apiece at the Thai track and field athletic championships held in Bangkok.

Wijekoon won his gold in the men's 1500 metres final where he clocked 3 minutes, 53.59. He also won a silver medal in the 3000 metres men's steeplechase final.

Menaka's gold came in the women's 400 metres final when she was clocked 55.13 secs.

Sri Lanka's second silver medal was won by N.C.D. Priyadarshani in the women's long jump. Her distance was 6.19 metres. (AAA media release)
