Justice Marsoof on fact-finding mission to Saudi

COLOMBO: A group of judges of Quazi Forum led by Supreme Court Judge Saleem Marsoof P.C. called on Saudi Ambassador in Sri Lanka Mohammed Al-Ali at his Embassy in view of the proposed legal study tour in Saudi Arabia.

The delegation left for Saudi Arabia to study the legal proceedings followed by the Islamic Sharia Courts on cases related to personal law, specially pertaining to marriage and divorce.

He will be in Saudi Arabia until May 7. "We have long relationship with Arab countries. They called Sri Lanka, 'Serendib' and 'Seylan', said Justice Marsoof.

He said Muslims in Sri Lanka have rights to practise all aspects of the religion from the times of Sinhala kings.

Justice Marsoof thanked the Saudi Ambassador for giving them an opportunity to study Islamic Sharia (Islamic Law) on marriage and divorce. "This will help expand our knowledge and how the Islamic law is applied in practice in the Kingdom," he added.
