Intl. Peace Award for Dr. Ariyaratne

COLOMBO: The University of Toronto in Canada has selected Dr. A.T. Ariyaratne (Founder & President) of the Sarvodaya Movement to receive the "Acharya Sushil Kumar International Peace Award" for the year 2005.

During the year 2003, Prof. Joan Tolengy received the International Peace Award, while in the year 2004, His Holiness Dalai Lama received the International Peace Award.

The third personality who has been selected to receive this Award is Dr. A.T. Ariyaratne.

Acharya Sushil Kumar was the great Jain teacher and a well-known peace activist, who passed away during the year 1994.

This International Prize is awarded to International Leaders who work with sacrifice in the spirit of non violence and with religious harmony. Along with the award, the recipient will be presented with US$ 10,000.

The Awards Ceremony is scheduled to be held at the University of Toronto tomorrow April 23. Dr. A.T. Ariyaratne and Mrs. Neetha Ariyaratne left for Canada to attend the concerned ceremony.
