Soka Gakkai helps 'Sambodhi Home for the Differently Abled'
COLOMBO: The Soka Gakkai Buddhist Association of Sri Lanka has
made a valuable donation to the 'Sambodhi Home for the 'Differently
Abled' in Galle recently.
The Association has donated an ultra sound machine, three computers
and many items for the physiotherapy room, air mattresses and a hospital
bed to the home.
The Soka Gakkai Lanka Buddhist Association established in this
country in 1975 has been engaged over the years in many religious,
cultural and social projects.
The indefatigable Director of the Association Paul Dias has been its
live wire. The Association has established an important link between the
University of Kelaniya and the Soka University of Japan.
There have been many student exchanges and Professors of the two
Universities have visited each others Universities.
The Association has also donated books to the Universities of
Peradeniya, Ruhuna, Sri Jayawardenapura, University of Colombo and the
Public Library.
The Association has in recent years afforded material assistance to
schools in various parts of the country and promoted Art exhibitions for
schoolchildren.
The Soka Gakkai Lanka Buddhist Association was also deeply involved
in the post-tsunami relief and rehabilitation effort.
A large number of 40- foot containers were brought containing
medicines, food, clothes and other requirements that were distributed
through the office of President Mahinda Rajapaksa with the assistance of
his Secretary Lalith Weeratunge.
One thousand school kits and family kits were distributed to six
schools in the Hambantota district. |
