Fresh formula to solve university admission issue- English teachers' union

COLOMBO: A large number of students and parents have earnestly requested the All Ceylon Union of English Teachers, unit of Education International to place the following fresh Formula before the University Grants Commission.

One hundred and ninety nine candidates have duly qualified to the Medical Faculty after the revision process.

The Union notes with great concern that the University Grants Commission is legally bound to follow the guidelines laid down in the booklet on University admissions for the Academic Year 2005/2006.

It clearly states that 955 medical stream students would be admitted out of which 259 students from Colombo District. On this issue a case is pending before the High Court of Colombo.

In order to fulfil the above requirements to University will have to admit 1154 students to medical stream. If it is not possible to admit all imemdiatedly it may be spread into two batches and issue students concerned promising admissions at an early date.

The Union's Secretary-General, M.A. Stanley Perera says that the Union is grateful to the Minister of Education, Susil Premajayatha for the speedy action taken to solve this University admission issue.
