Sports complex for BRC

SPORTS COMPLEX: The foundation stone for the proposed four storeyed centenary sports complex of the Burgher Recreation Club will take place next month under the patronage of Prime Minister Ratnasiri Wickremanayake.

The present BRC sports pavilion which is adjoining to the old pavilion is not adequate for sports activities and many requests have been made by the Cricket Administrators and cricketers to develop the same. The present sports pavilion caters for cricketers and hockey players of the clubs participating in the tournaments conducted by the National Sports Associations and neighbouring clubs.

Since the space is limited in the present pavilion to develop it further and since the development of sports is the club's main interest as well as the obligation the general committee decided to construct this new sports complex adjoining to the boundaries of Henry Pedris Stadium and the Havelocks Sports Club.

The proposed centenary sports complex will have the facilities for players dressing rooms and umpires room, changing rooms for other ground users, store rooms for sports equipment and ground machinery, players accommodation, gymnasium, hall for lectures, seminars and functions.

The estimated cost to complete this project would be around 25 million and the members of the general committee with the assistance of the members, well wishers and Sri Lanka Cricket are doing everything to make this project a reality within 12-15 months.
