Treasury Bill fraud: Two bank employees remanded

COLOMBO: The Criminal Investigations Department (CID) probing a
Treasury Bill fraud, amounting to over Rs.7.3 million, at a private bank
yesterday produced two suspects, both senior bank employees, before the
Colombo Fort Magistrate and Additional District Judge Namal Balalle and
remanded till April 19.
The CID filing a report in connection with their investigations on
the fraud told the Judge that according to the investigation all data of
a dead person had been changed into another account of the same bank by
using a computer system.
The CID also told court that several bank employees attached to the
Computer section had also been involved in this racket.
The Treasury Bill account of the dead person had been opened in 2004,
the CID told Court. After perusing the report before court the Judge
directed the CID to submit a comprehensive report to court on April 19,
2006.
Yasantha Sanjeewa Wettegoda and Chanaka Hemal Pelangoda appeared for
the two suspects. |
