HANDWOVEN SAREES
The Ministry of Textile Industry Development and Department of Textiles organised a handwoven bridal fashion show to generate a market for handloom bridal saree among the public. It has also aimed to popularise local manufacturing handwoven products. The event was held on Monday at the BMICH with the objective of creating the possibility of adding more glamour to the wedding by being dressed in a locally made saree. Low cost is the main advantage when compared to the Indian bridal saree and it would benefit to promote livelihood to handloom weavers in rural areas. Ten leading beauticians dressed 35 brides at the event. First Lady Shiranthi Rajapaksa was the chief guest. Minister Jayathissa Ranaweera looks on. Picture by Ranjith Jayaweera
