CRICKET: One hundred and seventy six (176) young spinners from
the Central Region attended the spinners clinic organised by the Sri
Lanka Cricket in association with the Central Province Cricket
Association held at the Asgiriya Cricket Stadium in Kandy recently.
This spinners clinic was attended by school cricketers and young club
cricketers ranging from the ages of 15 to 19 from the districts of Kandy,
Kegalle and Nuwara Eliya.
This coaching clinic was handled by former Sri Lanka spinner Roger
Wijesuriya, Muttiah Devaraj, Jerome Jayaratne (Head Coach - Max Academy)
and was co-ordinated by the Manager Coaching of Sri Lanka Cricket
Malcolm Perera. Playing a major role and handling arrangements was the
Central Province Cricket Coach Sunil Fernando. Also assisting in the
coaching Programme were Chaminda Kodikara, Lakshman Panditharatne,
Indika Fernando, Senaka Dissanayake, Suresh Peiris, Ananda Wijesekera,
Bernard Perera, Nishan Wasalathanthri, Amila Pinnaduwa, Roland Perera
(Regional Selector) and Aubrey Kuruppu.
The young spinners were put through their paces and their flaws
corrected and they were also taught how to exploit the conditions in a
particular match.
The Manager Coaching - Sri Lanka Cricket Malcolm Perera who co-ordinated
this programme said that 11 spinners have been identified for further
training and some of them bowled extremely well at the coaching clinic.
The turn out very impressive and fortunately they had a large number
of local cricket coaches in hand to handle the situation. This programme
which was organised by Sunil Fernando in his capacity as the Central
Province Coach was a roaring success. They intend to conduct more
similar coaching camps in the future. |
