Crimes rampant in Tangalle - SSP

TANGALLE: Vices and crimes are rampant in the fourteen police areas of the Tangalle division. There are some people who have got involved in underworld activities said Tangalle SSP Upali Hewage. He was addressing the journalists in the Hambantota district at the Tangalle Police auditorium.

He said, he was a friend of journalists and he built ties with journalists in the area where he served. Some offenders have been convicted and serving sentences in prison. Another section of culprits are at large.

'I believe the police must closely co-operate with the people to curb escalating crimes and misdemeanours.'

'The police should be in close touch with the Temple, Church and the mosque in the area.'

The crime rate has come down drastically after I assumed duties SSP said.

The prime duty of the police officers is to serve the masses irrespective of racial, religion affiliations the SSP said.
