Walk with me, Akram tells Lankans

COLOMBO: Pakistani cricket star Wasim Akram will lead a walk
against diabetes, tomorrow from 8.00 a.m. from the Ceylinco House,
Colombo and move forward passing the World Trade Centre, Lake House
Roundabout, Trans Asia, Gangaramaya Temple area and end at the Island
newspaper publication House premises.
Akram, a diabetic since 1997, is in Colombo to deliver the message to
prevent, control diabetes and save the nation from the disease.
The world renowned star has been carrying out his humanitarian
mission to many Asian countries including India and his own country
Pakistan.
According to him, diabetes is an easily manageable disease if the
accurate treatment and healthy habits are maintained. His mission is to
go to the people with the message of controlling diabetes with proper
health care.
Akram the cricket idol said he appreciates the support he gets from
his family, team members, friends and cricket fans to control the
disease. He requested the public to do the same for their family members
or friends who suffer from the disease.
"I have seen many children as young as four suffering from diabetes
and I am pleading to parents to watch their children with care as the
sooner the disease is diagnosed the easier it is to control it", he
said.
"Anyone willing to join me in my mission is welcome to the walk", he
said requesting the public to participate in the walk and join hands
with him in carrying the message throughout the country. |
