California State University to support students from Sri Lanka
COLOMBO: Humboldt State University (HSU), one of the 23
campuses of the prestigious California State University is ready to
support the Sri Lankan higher education system by building a close
partnership with local institutions and by supporting students who are
seeking a recognised degree in the United States.
Dr. Guy-Alain Amoussou, Director of International Programmes and
professor of Computer Science arrived in Sri Lanka recently for a
one-week visit to many institutes in Colombo and Kandy.
He will present the great opportunities available for students to
earn a prestigious American degree at an affordable price.
US News and World Report have ranked Humboldt State University in the
top 10% of universities nationally for many years.
Proportionately, HSU enrols more science majors who then go on to
receive PhD's than any comparable institution nationwide, according to
National Science Foundation findings. HSU is also ranked number four
within the entire State of California for its specialized sciences.
With its diverse program offerings and the recognition worldwide, HSU
now wishes to extend its international network by building partnerships
with Sri Lankan institutes, particularly with American National College
(ANC), Institute of Technological Studies (ITS), American College of
Higher Education (ACHE), Informatics Institute of Technology (IIT),
Singapore Informatics and Sri Lanka Institute of Information Technology
(SLIIT).
These partnerships could include components such as students transfer
and exchange, scholarship (fee waivers) and faculty exchange.
Dr. Amoussou stated that he is particularly interested in Sri Lanka
following the collaboration created initially with the two Fulbright
Research Scholars from HSU who spent over 12 months in Sri Lanka and the
academic excellence shown by the Sri Lankan students currently studying
at HSU.
Humboldt State University International Programs Director, Dr.
Amoussou, is scheduled to meet with students and officials at various
institutions.
He will be giving a presentation to students and parents at the
Galadari Hotel, Colombo this Monday, March 20th 2006 at 6.00 p.m. and
invites all interested in the opportunity to study in the United States
at a prestigious California State University campus, to attend.
He will entertain questions regarding the education opportunities
available at HSU after a brief introduction of the campus and its
programmes.
