Journalist among four hurt in Bangladesh blast
BANGLADESH: Four people including a journalist were injured when
three hand-made bombs were hurled at them in an attack in southern
Bangladesh possibly linked to outlawed Maoists, police said Wednesday.
Jhenidah town police chief Abdul Aziz said officers were
investigating whether a Maoist group had carried out the bombing but
ruled out any link to the Islamic extremist group Jamayetul Mujahideen (JMB)
which has been blamed for a nationwide attacks since August.
The bomb attack was the third this week in Jhenidah. Banned Maoist
groups are believed to be behind the killings of dozens of politicians
and journalists in the past decade and they have been active in the area
for many years.
The journalist, a correspondent of Bengali-language national daily
Naya Diganta, and three others were at a local construction firm when
they were targeted late Tuesday, Aziz said.
“One of them had injuries in his eyes while the journalist suffered
minor injuries to his face,” he added.
