Central Province paddlers to receive colours

TABLE TENNIS: The Central Province Table Tennis Association will
award colours to 45 paddlers who had excelled both at local and national
levels at a ceremony to be held at Dharmaraja College Auditorium in
Kandy on Saturday at 2 p.m.
The President of the Central Province Table Tennis Association
Superintendent of Police Daya Samaraweera who is also the President of
the Sri Lanka Tennis Association said that it will not only the table
tennis players but also the coaches will be felicitated for their
services in 2005. They will be presented with trophies, medals and
certificates.
Among the top paddlers who will be felicitated are national champion
for many years from Vidyartha College, Tilina Piyadasa and also former
national champion Deepika Rodrigo who made her mark from Mahamaya Girls
College and is now attached to Lake House where she continue this game
in a big way.
Another rising star from the hills Kalpani Herath from Girls High
School who has been dominating the table tennis scene from the time who
was a 12 years old and has won the national title for six years besides
other trophies. Like Piyadasa, Rodrigo and Herath has represented the
country at international meets.
Honouring the young paddlers and encouraging them to perform even
better is a good move which should pay dividends and credit should go to
the President CPTTA Daya Samaraweera and his energetic committee
members.
