Canadian youth ordained bhikkhu at Mallikaramaya temple

COLOMBO: A young Canadian was ordained at Mallikaramaya temple at
Dematagoda, Colombo 9 on March 6, 2006. This Canadian's lay name was
Gerrum Victrost, a resident of Ottawa.
His mother is the Dean-in-charge of the Deans of the Ottawa
University while his father is a well-known scientist in Canada. Though
both his parents are Catholics, they help to improve the knowledge of
Buddhism for Gerrum.
The latter has read a lot of books on Buddhism and has acquired a
vast knowledge about Buddhism. As a result he wanted to become a
Buddhist monk. He was ordained at the auspicious time on March 6 by the
name of Jetha Thera.
His teachers and Preceptors are Venerable Boralankada Wimalathissa
Thera, Chief Incumbent of Mallikarama Temple and Venerable Dr.
Walasmulla Sirisumana Thera, Chief Incumbent of the Buddhist Centre in
Ottawa Canada. |
