Five soldiers killed in Indian Kashmir army camp
INDIA: Five soldiers were killed in Indian-administered Kashmir when
a soldier opened fire on four colleagues before killing himself,
military intelligence sources said Sunday.
The soldiers belonged to a batallion stationed at Miran Sahib, 10
kilometers (6 miles) south of Jammu, the state's summer capital.
The shootings happened after an army constable had an argument with a
fellow soldier and shot him. He then killed two other soldiers and an
officer who tried to intervene, before finally turning the gun on
himself, the military source said, asking not to be named.
Thousands of troops are stationed in India's northernmost state,
which is in the grip of a separatist insurgency. The 16-year-old revolt
against New Delhi's rule has left at least 44,000 people dead.
