SLMM condemns attack

VAVUNATHIEEVU: The SLMM strongly condemns the attack on the LTTE checkpoint in Vavunathieevu on March 4 where two cadres were killed by unidentified gunman.

This attack is yet another blow to the Ceasefire Agreement and is also seriously undermining both parties commitment to the Joint Statement from the Geneva talks. If such attacks and killings should re-occur SLMM fears that the next round of talks is put at stake, Head of Mission, Hagrup Haukland says.

The SLMM urges the parties to do all in their power to maintain the ceasefire and to implement the agreed measures spelt out in the Joint Statement, thus creating and maintaining a stable and safe environment for all, conducive to the Peace Process.
