More than half of construction work on Uva University complete
UVA PROVINCE: Healthcare and Nutrition and Uva Wellassa Development
Minister Nimal Siripala de Silva who visited the construction site of
the Uva University under the Uva-Wellassa Development Programme last
week instructed the Board of Management and the engineers of the
Contractor, the Central Engineering Bureau to complete the construction
work expeditiously as the University has to commence academic activities
before the end of this year.
Minister de Silva made an inspection tour of the University
construction site in the company of Vice Chancellor Dr.Chandra
Embuldeniya and officials of the District Secretariat including the
District Secretary and found that more than half of the construction
work on the main building and the administrative complex have been
completed by now and the balance will be completed before the end of
next month.
The Uva-Wellassa University for the establishment for which Rs. 1,500
mn have been allocated will accommodate 3,000 students as a start under
five academic streams.
As explained by Vice Chancellor Dr. Embuldeniya, it will have an
Information Technology Centre with 100 computers in addition to a
Multi-media Academic Unit accommodating 350 students at a time. Steps
have been taken to expand its academic spectrum in all streams leading
to a professional degree. |
