ICLP Arbitration centre meeting

COLOMBO: The ICLP Arbitration Centre will hold a Business Breakfast
meeting on March 8 at Oak Room of Cinnamon Grand Hotel in celebration of
its tenth anniversary, said ICLP Chief Executive Officer Ms. Hemamali
Amarasinghe.
Attorney General Presidnet's Counsel K.C. Kamalasabeyson will address
the gathering on "Arbitration as an Alternative method of Commercial
Dispute Resolution in Sri Lanka."
ICLP Secretary General S. S. Wijeratne will speak on "ICLP Rules for
Expedited Arbitrations."
The ICLP Arbitration Centre is the only Institutional Arbitration
Centre in Sri Lanka which has its own set of regular rules.
The Centre also facilitates arbitrations under other International
Rules and arbitrations on ad hoc basis. ICLP secretarial services are
also available for arbitrations conducted at other venues.
The Centre expects to fast track the procedures though the ICLP
Expedited Rules which encourage the sole arbitrator concept, resolution
based on documentary evidence, minimized hearings and oral arguments.
The most salient feature of these rules would be rendering the award
within three months from referring the matter to tribunal.
The activities to mark the tenth anniversary will include seminars on
Copy Rights, Construction Arbitration, Modern Arbitration Law and
Compilation of a Book on Arbitration Law and Practice in Sri Lanka.
The Centre also had a seminar in Kurunegala in Sinhala as a means of
expanding the Arbitration concept to outstations, Exective Officer Ms.
Amarasinghe said.
The present Board of Directors of ICLP Arbitration Centre consists of
Deshamanya C.P. de Silva, James Selvam Mather, Justice Hector S. Yapa,
Walter Laduwahetty, President's Counsel Nalin Abeysekera and S.S.
Wijeratne. |
