LIIT adds 500 IT graduates
IT: The Sri Lanka Institute of Information Technology (SLIIT) had its
convocation on February 17, at SLIIT's Malabe Campus auditorium.
This was the second convocation for the SLIIT Postgraduate Diplomates,
third convocation for the SLIIT special honours graduates and the fourth
Convocation for the Curtin University of Technology Graduates.
At these ceremonies over 500 students received their awards of which
41 received their Post Graduate Diploma, 385 received SLIIT special
honours degree in information technology and 77 received Curtin
University of Technology Degree in Information Technology.
Over 2000 students, parents and guests participated at this unique
ceremony.
Southern Province governor Kingsly T. Wickramaratne, and Professor
Geoff West, Head Department of Computer Science, Curtin University of
Technology, Australia were chief guests.
Dr. Bob Hart, Manager, Professional Standards and Development
represented the Australian Computer Society Inc.(ACS) and Mary Simpson
represented the Curtin University of Technology.
Dean-Academic Affairs and Acting Chief Executive Officer Dr. S. P
Kumarawadu, presented the candidates and Prof. S. Karunaratne President
and Chairman, awarded the degrees and diplomas as per the powers granted
under the Universities Act.
SLIIT conducts programmes of studies leading to the B.Sc.Degrees, the
B.Sc. Special Honours Degrees, Postgraduate Diplomas, M.Sc.Degrees and
several continuing Professional Development programmes in niche areas in
IT.
The B.Sc. Degree programmes have fields of specialisation in
Information Technology (IT), Information Systems (IS), and Computer
Systems and Networking (CS & N), whereas the Masters Degrees cover the
areas of Information Technology, Business Information Technology and
Information Management.
Within the last three years over 1100 have graduated from SLIIT and
are employed in prestigious positions in reputed institutions in both
the public and the private sectors. |
