SLMC to seek reacceptance of nominations

COLOMBO: The Sri Lanka Muslim Congress is to seek Court
assistance to re-accept party nominations, rejected following the
injunction order against the party leadership.
Party Secretary Hassan Ali said the decision was made at the party
High Command meeting yesterday at party headquarters.
He said the Court decision to lift the enjoining order was a victory
for the party as well as for the judiciary system of the country. "We
are confident we would get justice through the Courts," he said.
"We have public support but there are few individuals who are working
against us," he said.
The High Command meeting has also decided to have an Annual Delegate
Conference this week.
The delay in holding the Annual delegates conference was the main
allegation against the SLMC leadership and prompted some of its members
to go to Courts against the party leader and the General Secretary.
Meanwhile Ali said the party has decided to send a team led by party
leader Rauff Hakeem to the All Party Conference scheduled Monday.
"We are happy over the Geneva talks progress and we have decided to
send a team led by the leader to represent the party this time," he
said.
The SLMC, he said feels that the peace process was taking the correct
direction and he appalled the Government decision to honour the
Ceasefire Agreement. |
