RFCS to honour war widows
Ramani KANGARAARACHCHI
COLOMBO: Ravaniru Family Counselling Service (RFCS) headed by
former Air Force Commander, Air Vice Marshal Harry Gunatilake is to pay
tribute to the wives of war heroes for the first time on International
Women's Day on March 8 at 9.30 a.m. at Sasakawa Hall in Colombo 3.
A number of war widows representing Army, Navy, Air Force and Police
will be felicitated symbolising over 4,000 war widows in the country at
this event.
Air Vice Marshal Gunatilake said that RFCS made arrangements to
recognise police widows as well because they also had to sacrifice their
husbands for the same cause.
It is significant that few widows recognised on this day are also
serving members of the Navy and Police. A.V.M. Gunatilake said that
majority out of the total number of widows are very young and this event
will be an eye opener.
Presidents of Seva Vanitha units of the three services and Police
have been invited for this event. The wife of Late General Denzil
Kobbekaduwa who sacrificed his life for the country will be the chief
guest representing distinguished war widows on this occasion. |
