Rescheduling of AL exam not decided
Commissioner says requests have been made to put off
exam until May end

COLOMBO: Commissioner General of Examinations Anura Edirisinghe has
requested Education Minister Susil Premjayantha to postpone the GCE A/L
examination scheduled for April.
This is to allow time for the new cut off marks to reach the
candidates following last year's revision of the AL Chemistry paper.
"We had a discussion with the Examinations Department officials.
Normally there are three options from which to pick the time for the
exam, between April, June or August," Commissioner Edirisinghe told the
Daily News.
"However we have requested the Educational authorities to put off
this year's GCE A/L until the end of May. But the Education Ministry has
so far not communicated its decision to us," the Commissioner said.
The revision of the results of last year's A/L Chemistry paper and
candidates expecting the cut off marks to be released by the University
Grants Commission (UGC) has led the Examinations Department to make such
a request for a re-scheduling of the GCE A/L Examination.
According to the Commissioner, a large number of candidates who sat
last year's A/L examination have requested the Department of
examinations to put off the GCE A/L examination this year as they have
not been issued the 'cut off' marks so far and is not in a position to
know whether they have to re-sit for the exam. |
