Two JVPers among three injured in attack

HANGURANKETHA: Three persons including Nuwara Eliya District JVP Parliamentarian Nimal Premawansa Jayasinghe and JVP candidate for Hanguranketha Pradeshiya Sabha election R. M. K. H. B. Ranasinghe were injured and admitted to the Kandy Hospital following an alleged attack by an armed gang said to be supporters of a prominent UNP politician in Hanguranketha recently, according to a complaint made to Rikillagaskada Police.

A JVP media release said the gang armed with pistols, knives and clubs had attacked Jayasinghe and Ranasinghe while they were returning with a group of JVP supporters to the party office in Rikillagaskada after a JVP rally in Rikillagaskada town.

The victims had identified some members of the gang which included a UNP candidate for the Hanguranketha Pradeshiya Sabha election.

The JVP release also called upon law enforcement authorities to bring the culprits responsible for this attack to book without delay.
