Royal Park murder case:
Fingerprints tallied, says expert

COLOMBO: The Registrar of the Fingerprint Department Wijekoon
Mudiyanselage Wijesinghe said the fingerprint taken from the murder
scene of Yvonne Jonsson tallied with the fingerprints sent to him by the
Colombo Magistrate.
Giving evidence before Colombo High Court Judge I.M. Abeyratne who is
hearing the Royal Park murder case, he said according to the documents,
the fingerprints had been taken from suspect Sharman Jude Anthony.
Examined by Deputy Solicitor General Jayantha Jayasuriya, witness
said he directed all documents to the Assistant Registrar of the
Fingerprint Department.
But later when the Assistant Registrar was sent to the Attorney
General's Department to take part in a discussion, Wijesinghe decided to
take over the examination.
He said on July 5 with Dr. Maya Gunasekara and few others he went to
the crime scene. He later examined the fingerprints taken from the
railing of the staircase at the crime scene and it tallied with one of
the fingerprints that were sent to him on the Colombo Magistrate's
order. According to documents, the fingerprints were Antony's.
Anthony is charged with the murder of Yvonne Jonsson on July 1, 2005
at the Royal Park premises.
The case was put off for Monday. |
