Oliver Guruge appointed 'IBF continental referee'
Badminton: International Badminton Federation has appointed Oliver
Guruge, renowned badminton and a squash player in Sri Lanka as a
'Continental Referee' to officiate at World Ranked Badminton events. His
first assignment would be the forthcoming, Hanoi Satellite Badminton
Championships from 24th to 28th May 2006 in Hanoi, Vietnam.
Oliver Guruge won the triple crown at the 1st Junior Nationals
conducted by the Sri Lanka Schools Badminton Association in 1971 and
went on to represent Sri Lanka at many international badminton
tournaments, prior to shifting to Squash where he won the National title
three times. He has the distinction of having captained both the
badminton and squash national teams. He is also a qualified squash
referee as well.
Oliver played against 'Rudy Hartono' when Rudy visited Sri Lanka for
the 5th International Schoolboys Badminton Championships in 1967, hosted
at the Panagoda Army Cantonment.
He is Vice President of the Sri Lanka Badminton Association. |
