Cycle race: Guwan Hamuda - LG Abans Papedi Savariya a cycle race
organised by the Sri Lanka Air Force Cycling Committee to mark its 55th
Anniversary will be held on March 3 and 4, said Wing Commander Nalin
Jayatilleke at the press briefing held at Air Force head quarters. He
added that LG Abans have come forward to sponsor the event lavishly.
The biggest feature on this day will be the prize money that sets a
record for cycling the winner in to receive Rs. 100,000 the highest
amount a winner of a cycling event in Sri Lanka.
Meanwhile the team champions too will get a purse worth Rs. 20,000.
The riders who finish the race second to tenth too are in for cash
awards from Rs. 40,000 to 20,000.
The winners of the first and the second stage are entitled for Rs.
10,000 each. Jayatilleke said the race is scheduled to commence on
Friday opposite Air Force Headquarters and the riding in finished at
Matara completing 160km on the first stage.
The riders on day will set off on the second leg from Koggala at 1.00
pm and cover a distance of 125km to finish at Air Force Headquarters at
Sir Chittampalam Gardiner Mawatha. The race is to be conducted by the
Interim Committee for cycling in Sri Lanka. Cmdr. Jayatilleke also added
that all riders and their managers will be provided Accommodation on the
first day.
Entries close on March 1 with wing Commander N.P. Jayatilleke
Secretary Cycling Committee, Sri Lanka Air Force, Sir Chittampalam
Gardiner Mawatha, Colombo 1.
Commander of the Air Force Air Marshal Donald Perera will be the
chief guest on the second day and will give away the awards. Chandana
Pathirana, Manager Promotions LG Abans and other officials from LG Abans
too were present at the press briefing. |
