People will reiterate their faith in UPFA - Media Minister
Senarath Bandara Kulasekera
KATUGAMPOLA: People of this country who have already started enjoying
the fruits of the Mahinda Chinthanaya programme which is a blessing for
the nation will reiterate their faith in the UPFA at the forthcoming
Local Government Elections, said Information and Media Minister Anura
Priyadarshana Yapa.
He was addressing a group of UPFA candidates contesting the Pannala
Pradeshiya Sabha elections at a special meeting held at the Katugampola
UPFA central organisation office recently.
Minister Yapa further said that a wide cross section of the UNP rank
and file including several party big wigs have already crossed over the
UPFA after realising the success of the Mahinda Chintanaya programme.
It is heartening to note that they have realised their folly in
supporting the UNP even belatedly. The Minister said every individual in
this country will have a duty and responsibility to perform as regards
the country's march towards development. Village Development will be an
essential factor in overall national development.
The Pradeshiya Sabha will be the nucleus of the village
administration. As such it is important to elect a set of efficient and
practical representatives to the Pradeshiya Sabha. Therefore, every
candidate contesting the Local Elections should promote people oriented
policies without concern for any personal gain.
The Minister said the Government has already undertaken a massive
programme of work for national rebuilding. The Government is handling
everything in a very transparent manner because it never entertained any
hidden agenda. The best example of this is the Geneva CFA talks the
first round of which has been just launched.
The Minister said the UPFA should win the Local Polls with a clean
slate without resorting to terror or intimidation of opponents.
Former UNP member of the Pannala Pradeshiya Sabha Piyal Attanayake
renounced his UNP membership and joined the UPFA at this meeting. |
