President to brief UPFA candidates

COLOMBO: President Mahinda Rajapakse will preside over a special convention of the UPFA that will be attended by over 4,000 candidates contesting the March 30 Local Government elections, tomorrow at 10.30 a.m. at the Sugathadasa Indoor Stadium.

Earlier, the convention was to be held at the National Youth Services Centre.

Issuing a media release, SLFP General Secretary Maithripala Sirisena said the convention under the slogan "President-Local Government candidates Meeting" has been summoned to educate the candidates on the organisational aspects and strategies to be adopted at the election campaign.

It is planned to conduct a special briefing for all UPFA candidates while also distributing posters and other literature relevant to the poll among them. All leaders of the UPFA constituent parties will attend the convention.
