THIHAGODA: Ceylon German Technical Training Institute has rendered a
yeoman service to industries and transport sector by training skilled
technicians of international standard. The CGTTI certificate has an
international recognition. The fact that many a development country
recognises it even for migration purposes would be an ample evidence to
this, said P.H.G. Premasiri, Secretary, Ministry of Skills Development
and Public Enterprise Reforms.
He made these observations to make the 20th year partnership between
Ceylon German Technical Training Institute Sri Lanka and Gewerbliche
Schule Metzingen (GSM) Germany at a ceremony held at CGTTI at Moratuwa
recently.
The support and co-operation CGTTI has already received and also
continue to receive from GSM would be main factors that have enabled to
come up to the present standard of advanced technologies. The last
German Director of this institute Roland Kilgus would be mainly
responsible close co-operation and coordination between CGTTI and GSM,
he told.
He also thanked to all those who worked hard for the success of this
project. Roland Kilgus, former director/principal, Ceylon German
Technical Training Institute said that the partnership between GSM and
the CGTTI was sponsored in 1985. This was the first partnership between
vocational training institutes in Germany and abroad. Development of
solidarity between partners and support of technical know-how and
training activities would be main targets of these endeavours, he said.
The proper transfer of latest technological developments in the
fields of automobile and machine tool technologies would be main
emphasis in these efforts. The Ministry of Economics of the state of
Baden Wuerttemberg funds for a CNA lathe.
It has earmarked an important milestone in the technological
advancement of Ceylon German Technical Training Institute.
Gamini Manchanayake, Director/Principal of the Ceylon-German
Technical Training Institute said that CGTTI has been the leading
vocational training institute in Sri Lanka and it stands as a lively
symbol of friendship, goodwill and co-operation between Sri Lanka and
Germany.
The present government has given top priority for vocational training
for school leavers with a view to resolve the burning problem of
unemployment in Sri Lanka.
Dietar Kuhn, Director, GSM, Germany, Dr. Roland F. Steurer, country
director GTZ, Sri Lanka, T. Halder, Director General Ministry of
Education, Baden Wuerttemberg, and Gunathilaka Banda Deputy Principal,
