BINGIRIYA: Sri Lanka will commemorate the 2550th Buddha Jayanthi
celebrations this year in Sri Lanka. The Ministry of Education has
planned a long term programme in all government schools, pirivenas,
universities, National Colleges of Education and other training
institutions.
The theme of this programme is "towards a morally developed Sri
Lanka". It will be implemented under the guidance of President Mahinda
Rajapakse and Minister of Education Susil Premajayantha. All programmes
are planned according to the instructions of the prelates of all
chapters.
A Vesak week has been declared by the Ministry of Education from May
9-15. Ariyaratne Hewage, Secretary Ministry of Education has instructed
in a circular to all Heads of schools, pirivenas and colleges of
Education.
It has been emphasized that every student should be encouraged to
attend Dhamma Schools and special religious programmes should be carried
out at school level on every Fullmoon Poyaday with the assistance of
school teachers and parents with effect from this year.
The Secretary has informed all Heads of schools that one of main
objectives of education is to create a morally-developed student
generation in our country and all principals and teachers have a
responsibility to achieve that target within their capacities. |
