Traffic offenders face prosecution

COLOMBO: The Police Traffic Division will take stern action against all drunken drivers, drivers who are violating traffic laws and using unroadworthy vehicles. All traffic offenders will be prosecuted and the Traffic Police will suspend the licences of such drivers, said Acting Inspector General of Police Bodhi Liyanage on Friday.

Acting IGP Liyanage made these observations at a ceremony to distribute certificates to the Senior Police Officers who had completed the Senior Traffic Management Course recently.

All unroadworthy vehicles detected by the Traffic Police will be sent to the Registrar of Motor Vehicles for checking. The traffic police will not allow the use of these vehicles without a clearance certificate from the RMV, the Acting IGP said.
