National finals tomorrow

VOLLEYBALL: The finals of Dialog sponsored National Volleyball
Championships for men and women are scheduled to be conducted at
Sugathadasa Indoor Stadium from 9.0 a.m. onwards.
The days programme commences with the Inter-club women's championship
played between Air Force, Koggala and Slintex Sports Club, Pannala. In
this category Sumana Balika Vidyalaya, Ratnapura was placed third.
At 11.0 a.m. Airmen from Koggala take on Pragathi Sports Club from
Thoduwawa, Puttalam District in the men's division. Siyane Tharu Sports
Club who were favoured for the championship at the early stages had to
be content with the third slot.
The super league finals too are scheduled to be played from 1.0 p.m.
onwards. In this category Sri Lanka Ports Authority men and women have
qualified to play against Sri Lanka Army and Sri Lanka Air Force women.
Air men and sailors have won the second runners-up positions
respectively in the super league tourney.
Winner of the inter-club tourney will receive the "Dialog GSM" trophy
and a cash award of Rs. 50,000 while the two runners-up are to receive
cash award of Rs. 30,000 and 20,000 meanwhile the super league winners
are entitled to carry away the prestigeous "Dialog GSM" trophy and Rs.
50,000 the runners-up teems take away Rs. 40,000 and 25,000.
The National Novices Championship final was conducted last weekend at
National Youth Services Centre Maharagama. Slintex SC Pannala defeated
Vijayaba SC from Hungama, three sets to nil to clinch the women's
championship while Homagama Sports Club beat Christ King SC, Thoduwawa
three sets to nil to become champions in the men's division.
Anuradhapura MMV and Vendala Sports Club, Ruwanwella were the runners-up
in the women and men's category.
Dr. Hans Wijesuriya Chief Executive Officer "Dialog GSM" is scheduled
to attend the awards ceremony as chief guest. The guest of honour will
be D.L. Siriwardene the most prominent volleyball player who was voted
as the best spiker four decades ago.
President of the Volleyball Federation and Deputy Minister for
Justice, Legal Reforms and Constitutional Affairs Dilan Perera and other
federation officials are expected to witness the day's proceedings.
