Isipatana take major honours

CRICKET: Isipatana College spearheaded by a superb all round performance from Tharaka Waduge took major honours on the opening day of their 43rd annual inter school Big Match against the traditional rivals Thurstan College played at the SSC grounds, Maitland Place yesterday.

The opening bowler ripped through the Thurstan top order with a hostile spell of bowling and then followed up with a useful contribution of 45 runs.

Thurstan after being put into bat struggled for runs throughout the innings with Waduge exploiting the conditions to good affect. He was well supported by Madiva Perera and Gayan Dilruk.

The Isipatana batsmen then got their act together well and went on to overtake their opponents modest first innings total of 145 runs quite convincingly. Waduge led the way once again with a solid knock of 45 runs which set the pace for a good first innings total
