COLOMBO: Visiting Indian Defence analyst Gen. Ashoka Metta
said yesterday Sri Lanka and India enjoy the best relations they had
ever known in the recent history, and were looking for avenues to
improve it further.
"Sri Lanka and India today enjoy the best relations the two countries
had ever enjoyed," Gen. Metta said.
He added that the Sri Lankan military has the largest share of
foreign military personnel training and studying in Indian security
establishments.
"The number of Sri Lankan Naval personnel training in India exceeds
the quota of all the other national put together and Sri Lankan military
officers enjoy the largest quota of foreign students," he said.
Gen. Metta who had served in Sri Lanka during the Southern insurgency
in the early 70s and the second tenure with the IPKF as Divisional
Commander in Batticaloa, said India as a regional power and emerging
world power is responsible for the stability and order in its
neighbourhood.
"We have evidence to believe the LTTE have trained and helped
insurgent and secessionist movement all throughout India," he said. |
