Nationals in Kandy

CHESS: The Sri Lanka National Chess Championships is in its final stages and scheduled to be held on February 24-26 at Hotel Topaz, Kandy.

G. C. Anuruddha of Old Vidyarthian's Chess Club and R. S. Kalugampitiya of Vidyartha College leads the event with 6 1/2 points while FIDE master, Sunil Weeramanthry and Athula Russell is very close with 6 points, just 1/2 a point behind after the 1st stage held in Union Assurance Centre, Colombo.

U. G. Y. Methmali (Southlands) leads the Women's followed by D. M. C. Wijewardena (Viharamahadevi Balika), P. R. Senanayake and Lihini Walallawita (Both Musaeus).

Tikiri Kobbekaduwa, the Governor, Central Province will be the Chief Guest.
