Army again scotches Website canard

COLOMBO: The Sri Lanka Army, taking into consideration of a couple of untrue, baseless and unfounded reports that continue to appear on the pro-LTTE TamilNet Website, denies having anything to do with their latest false report that appeared Thursday (23) regarding an alleged 'artillery firing'.

The website report quoting LTTE Peace Secretariat officials claimed that an artillery shell fired by the Vadamarachchi Army camp fell inside uncleared areas, held by Tigers close to a village where displaced people are living.

This fabricated story with sinister motives is also not very much different from the two other contradictory stories on Wednesday (22) and Monday (20) on the same website regarding an alleged 'murder' and another alleged 'claymore mine' respectively. pasted hours before the Geneva talks commenced.

The Sri Lanka Army with its wealth of experience, as a battle-hardened professionals organ would under no circumstances prevail upon its soldiers to fire even a random round of an artillery shell that would cause a wanton destruction, specifically at the time both Government and LTTE are talking, it said.

The Army categorically denies the contents of the above report and calls upon both local and foreign community not to be misled by such blatant lies and distortions being carried by pro-LTTE propaganda mills.
