Japan provides five Mobile Diagnostic Units
JAPAN:The Japanese Government donated five Mobile Diagnostic Units
valued Rs. 45 million to improve healthcare services in the Tsunami hit
rural areas.
These units equipped with essential medical instruments, such as
ultrasonic nebulizers, glucometers, ESR stands and automated
bio-chemistry Analyzers will carry out basic laboratory tests to boost
the health services.
Japan provided Rs. 8 billion for relief, rehabilitation and
reconciliation of health, fisheries, housing, power, roads, education
and water and sanitation sectors affected by tsunami.
Out of this grant, Rs. 185 million has been allocated to the health
sector.
This allocation will be utilised for the provision of medical
equipment to 33 affected hospitals and reconstruction of the Anti Rabies
Laboratory destroyed by the Tsunami in Galle.
Japanese Ambassador Akio Suda handed over the donation to Health
Minister Nimal Siripala de Silva on February 14 at the Health Ministry.
Ministry Secretary Ranjith Maligaspe, Additional Secretary Dr. Nihal
Jayathilake, Embassy First Secretary Dr. Yuji Miyahara and Ampara, Galle,
Hambantota and Jaffna Deputy Provincial Directors of Health Services
were also present. |
