No threat of a pepper ban

Pepper: There is no threat pepper being banned from Sri Lanka to India Chairman of the Spice Council Sarada de Silva said.

He was commenting on a news published in a website recently saying India might put cap or even might stop pepper imports from Sri Lanka. The Kerala elections will be held in the near future and this is just a political move to stop pepper imports from Sri Lanka, he said.

If India stopped importing pepper from Sri Lanka we need to search for other markets and it will only affect a small percentage of the total exports, he said.
