SLPA earns more revenue through vehicle transshipment

COLOMBO: The huge car carrier, Continental Highway belongs to K-Line
of Japan and sails under Panama Flag called at Sri Lanka Ports Authority
(SLPA) controlled Unity Pier on 4th February, 2006.
The 199.4 m long vessel consists of a Kobe Diesel Mitsubishi UE main
engine and sails at a service of 20.0 knots.
The ship arrived here from India with a huge capacity of Indian heavy
vehicles and is expected to handle its transshipments via West bound,
African and Middle Eastern ports from Colombo.
Expressing views at the occasion, K. S. Prasanna, Working Director of
the SLPA said that plans are being implemented at present to elevate
ports revenue through vehicle transshipment operations and a mega seven
storied building to park such imported vehicles would also be
constructed at the Colombo port.
Mr. Nimal Jayatissa, Operations Manager of PVQ and Guide Pier of SLPA
was also present at the occasion. |
