Life for tsunami victims

GALLE: Live music, live voice and puppets on strings! Thanks to the work of German volunteer, Steve Brick who provided a bit of life and laughter to tsunami victims.

The show held at the beach lawn of Lighthouse Hotel and Spa, Galle which is a Jetwing Hotel, was a big success thanks to Jetwing, Brick said.

This was the first puppet show for tsunami victims many more are to be held along the coast of Galle, Matara and Hambantota.

At the puppet show at Lighthouse Hotel, children were given the opportunity to interact with the puppet and make friends, even though for a few hours. This was proved to be beneficial to children in helping them deal with the ghastly effects of the tsunami.

General Manager, Lighthouse Hotel and Spa, Sanjiva Gautamadasa said "what bigger privilege than to be associated with the revival of this dying art of puppetry and under such moving and emotional conditions".

Puppetry has proved its appeal by captivating the hearts of both children and adults. Following the success of the show at Lighthouse Hotel and Spa, Brick in association with Sir Arthur C. Clarke commissioned Sri Lankan playwright Sarath Gunaratna to write more puppet plays with the tsunami in mind. - LJ
