England in convincing win
Chris Dhambarage
CRICKET - England cleared their first hurdle in their attempt to
clinch the under 19 Youth World Cup when they defeated Nepal by 77 runs
in their opening group match played at the SSC grounds, Maitland Place
yesterday.
After being restricted to a modest 209 runs from their 50 overs
England put up a tremendous performance on the field to dismiss the
Nepal side for just 132 runs. Hamilton Brown ripped through the Nepal
middle order with a penetrative spell of bowling and received excellent
support from Mullaney and James.
Earlier M. Ali hit a solid 54 from 82 balls with three fours and two
sixes as England reached 209 for 9 after they had won the toss and
elected to bat first. They were heading towards a big total at one stage
after some useful contributions from their top two batsmen Chopra and
Nelson. But they lost their way mid way in the innings following some
accurate bowling from the two spinners Regmi and Vesawkar.
